Thoughtful estate planning and practical business counsel for New Hampshire families and owners.
Wills, trusts, and probate alongside entity formation, contracts, and ongoing advice — in language you can use, not jargon you have to decode. We take time to understand your goals before recommending a path, and we explain tradeoffs in plain terms so you can decide with confidence.
Hartwell & Reeves is a Concord-based practice focused on matters that touch family legacies and the businesses people build over a career. Many of our clients first come in for a will or succession question and stay for ongoing advice as their companies and households grow — we are structured to support that continuity without needless handoffs.
Practice areas
Wills & estates
We prepare wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives tailored to your beneficiaries, tax posture, and priorities. Whether you are starting from scratch or updating a plan after a move or life change, we map options clearly and document them so your intentions are easy to follow.
Small business counsel
From choosing an entity and operating agreements to vendor contracts, employment policies, and asset purchases, we help owners reduce risk without slowing you down. You get responsive answers to day-to-day questions and structured help when a deal or dispute needs more than a quick phone call.
Probate & estate administration
If you are executing a will or administering an intestate estate, we guide petitions, notices, inventories, and distributions in step with court practice. Our goal is to keep beneficiaries informed, deadlines met, and conflict addressed early so the process stays manageable.
Attorneys
Both partners maintain active New Hampshire bar admissions and meet regularly with financial planners, accountants, and other professional advisors so coordinated plans stay aligned.
Eleanor V. Hartwell
Partner · Trusts & estates
Eleanor advises individuals and families on wealth transfer, tax-aware gifting, charitable planning, and fiduciary duties. Before joining the Concord bar, she clerked for the probate division and spent several years in a Boston trusts practice; she returned to New Hampshire to work with clients who prefer local, relationship-driven counsel. She speaks frequently to community groups on incapacity planning and executor responsibilities.
Marcus J. Reeves
Partner · Business & transactions
Marcus represents closely held companies, professional practices, and family enterprises in formations, acquisitions, and internal governance. He drafts and negotiates commercial agreements with an eye toward enforceability and exit flexibility, and he routinely partners with Eleanor when ownership transitions touch both operating agreements and estate documents. His prior experience includes in-house counsel to a regional manufacturer, which shapes how he prioritizes practical timelines and budgets.
How we work with you
- Initial consultation. We listen first — goals, timeline, sensitivities — then outline realistic next steps and fee expectations. Bring prior documents if you have them; we can also start fresh.
- Clear deliverables. You receive timelines, draft materials with explanatory memos when helpful, and a single point of contact for questions as work progresses.
- Ongoing availability. Many matters do not end at signing. We remain available for amendments, annual reviews, and new issues as your family or business changes.
Contact
Request a consultation by phone or email. If you describe the general nature of your matter, we can confirm whether the firm is a good fit before scheduling. Parking and building access instructions are available when your appointment is confirmed.
